48% of social media content will be AI generated by 2026

Welcome to TIL - Creator Edition! Each week, I discuss things that matter the most to you as a YouTuber, Podcaster, or content creator.

AI-Generated Content to Dominate Social Media by 2026: Should Creators be Worried?

Source: Capterra

A Capterra study found that by 2026, nearly half of all business social media posts will be AI-created. Is this the death knell for human creativity, or just another tool in the creator's arsenal?

Let's face it - AI is already outperforming humans in engagement and impressions. A staggering 73% of businesses report increased engagement with AI-generated content. But here's the kicker: 94% of these same companies are worried about spreading misinformation. It's like giving a toddler a megaphone and hoping they don't repeat that swear word they just learned.

So, what does this mean for creators? Will brand deals soon go to the highest-bidding algorithm? It's a double-edged sword. On one hand, AI could free up time for more creative pursuits. On the other, it could replace creators altogether for mundane content creation. The question is: will your audience be able to tell the difference?

Here's a controversial thought: maybe this AI takeover is exactly what the creator economy needs. It could force a shift towards more authentic, human-centric content that AI simply can't replicate. After all, in a sea of AI-generated blandness, true creativity will shine even brighter. But creators, be warned: adapt or risk becoming as obsolete as a MySpace profile.

Instagram Will Double Down on Short-Form Content: All While Paying Creators $0…

Instagram's Adam Mosseri has once again proven that the platform is more interested in hoarding ad dollars than serving its creator community. In a recent Reel, Mosseri declared Instagram's commitment to short-form content, effectively slamming the door on long-form video opportunities for creators.

We all know - Instagram doesn't pay creators squat. It's a self-serving platform that's more interested in its bottom line than yours. While YouTube shares the wealth, Instagram pockets all the profits from your hard work. Talk about a raw deal!

Instagram's track record with long-form content is abysmal. Remember IGTV? That spectacular failure should serve as a warning to creators. Meanwhile, TikTok is expanding into longer videos, understanding that creator monetization thrives on diverse content formats.

  • TikTok now allows 60-minute uploads

  • Instagram stubbornly clings to short-form content

  • Creators lose out on monetization opportunities

While short vertical videos may be gaining traction, intent-based long-form content still rules creator monetization.

Mosseri claims long-form content doesn't align with Instagram's "core identity." But could it be that Instagram doesn't want to invest in proper monetization for creators? It's easier to keep us on the hamster wheel of endless scrolling than to build a sustainable ecosystem.

Creator Spotlight: The Diary of a CEO

Launched in 2019, The Diary of a CEO offers listeners an exclusive and unfiltered peek into the lives of the most influential people in the world. Host Steven Bartlett sits down with influential CEOs, entrepreneurs, innovators – anyone who’s built something incredible and has a story to tell that people can learn from - uncovering their journeys and secrets to success.

The channel’s thumbnail strategy is on point. Each thumbnail follows a theme such that a familiar viewer can spot their content while browsing YouTube quite easily.

With 6.6M+ subscribers and 443M views over just 307 videos, the channel has over 1M average views per video!

But it doesn’t stop there. The DOAC Clips channel where the editors share shorter clips adds another 75M views from the same longer form content!

These clips are then shared on the main channel’s community page for further engagement. Brilliant strategic thinking there!

Making great thumbnails is hard. YouTube now offers a/b testing for thumbnails where you can upload 3 thumbnails and the algorithm will find the best performing one to use.

But, when you don’t have time to make one, how are creators supposed to make three to take advantage of this feature?!

Using AI and computer vision, Rizzle enables the creation of high-quality thumbails from your video in minutes. Thumbnail themes make it easy to maintain a theme for your channel while still bringing layout variability.

Create thumbnails like the one shown above - learn more.

In other news…

  • Rumor has it that Apple and Nvidia trained their AI on YouTube video transcripts - all your hours spent on scripting your videos have now fed massive AI systems! While larger publishers are getting millions of dollars for providing training data, individual creators are getting robbed!

  • VidCon Baltimore has suddenly been canceled with no explanation. While tickets purchased are being refunded, creators are upset, legitimately so. If you attended VidCon Anaheim, you probably saw that the floor was filled with giants like Disney more than creator-oriented booths. Could the excessive industry focus be ruining VidCon?

  • YouTube is introducing two AI music tools - AI-generated radio and song recognition. While YouTube music trails Spotify, with YouTube premium allowing background listening, these features only make Spotify even less relevant - how will Spotify catch up?
